In anticipation of DC Comics recently announced their Movie slate and the upcoming “Justice League:Throne of Atlantis”… I have selected the best DC animated movies released till date. Looking specifically at the DC Comics Animated Movies, here is the list of best featured animated films based on DC comic characters like Batman The Dark Knight, Green lantern, Superman and more… that live within the DC universe. You may not find all DC movies here in this list but surely will get some of the most successful and much appreciated animated movies list which includes your favorite superheroes.
1. Batman under the Red hood
“Under the Red Hood” story which depicts former Robin Jason Todd’s return to life as a diabolical villain who knows Batman’s every move takes Gotham City by the firestorm and is following his newsworthy demise at the hands of the Joker in “A Death in the Family.”
Here’s the trailer for Batman: Under the Red Hood, featuring the voices of Bruce Greenwood, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Isaacs and Jensen Ackles where the Dark Knight finds himself being stalked by a mysterious criminal who seems to know all of his secrets.
2. Superman / Batman: Public Enemies
DC animation deserved the highest praised for this one as it has the most awesome animation effect. The story that involved Lex Luthor who gets elected as Us President and uses the threat of an oncoming kryptonite meteor striking earth as a rationale to frame superman.
Here is the trailer for the sixth DVD project from Warner Bros’s DC Animated Universe unit,”Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” that is a socially-conscious adaptation of the six-part comic book story/graphic novel by writer Jeph Loeb and artists Ed McGuinness and Dexter Vines.

3. Superman/ Batman : Apocalypse
This film is probably the best of all the Superman animated movies that have been released over the least few years where you get to see a great chemistry between various DC characters. The animation quality, the voice acting, the comic timing, the action scenes, and the story. The plot takes place after the events of the excellent “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” where the story introduces Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl). Not long after she arrives on Earth, Kara is kidnapped by the evil Darkseid. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman must travel to the planet Apokolips to rescue her before Darkseid can brainwash her into becoming one of his Furies.
4.Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
Another spectacularly executed and inspiring animation flick by DC comics is Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths’ where a good version of Lex Luthor from a parallel Earth comes to the Justice League’s dimension for help to fight their evil counterparts.
Watch out the trailer of this simply awesome movie where the gathering of these legendary superheroes & the gathering of these extremely bad superheroes, is a delight to watch.
5. Batman : Assault on Arkham
Based on the so-called “Suicide Squad”, ‘Batman: Assault on Arkham’ plays like a ‘Dirty Dozen’ comprised of mostly B-list Batman villains. Batman himself is really a side player here, and quite honestly by the time he becomes involved in the story, his presence is unwelcome. The plot, simply put, is about a group of Gotham’s most notorious criminals being hired to break into Arkham Asylum by some very secret government people.
Watch the trailer of the movie where all the Batman villains are in the spotlight.
6. Wonder Woman
A movie based on DC comics super heroine “Wonder Woman” who is powerhouse warrior and not just a pageant queen. This piece of animation has been made with little resources but a high level of creativity and fidelity to the original comic. This is basically wondering woman’s origin story, and her fight against Ares, the god of war. The story is great and does a great job showing wonder woman interaction with the “real” world and her relationship with both her amazonian sisters and men. The story also does a good job introducing the mythology of the Amazons. The voice acting is excellent and both animation and action is on a very high level. I personally loved the intricacy of the action sequences.
7. Batman: Year one
This DC movie is great, brilliant, realistic, dark, gritty and very emotional Batman adaptation. The plot contains two parallel tales. One follows Bruce Wayne, a millionaire playboy with a tragic past who returns to Gotham City after many years. The other follows Lieutenant Jim Gordon, a cop transferred to Gotham Police Department. The story unveils a city where Crime and corruption increases, driving both Gordon and Wayne to bring justice to this lawless town through their own means.
Watch some realistic reinterpretation of Batman’s origins without any costumes or freaky gadgets.
8. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
The Flashpoint Paradox brings everyone’s favorite characters back together along with some original cast as well including Kevin Conroy (Batman: Animated Series), and Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern: Emerald Knights) as well as numerous new to the cast including the son of Superman.Justice League : The Flashpoint Paradox plot follows The Flash, who creates ripples in the timeline that disastrously alters the Universe. Now he must team with other heroes to restore the timeline while the Earth is ravaged by a war between Aqua man’s Atlantis and Wonder Woman’s Amazons, things these are not the heroes he knows

9. Batman: The dark knight Returns, Part 1
“The Dark Knight Returns” is inspired by Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan when they were crafting their live action Batman movies, as well as the 1990s Batman animated series. This one is by far the best DC animated film since “Batman: Under the Red Hood”, the story line stays true to the Frank Miller comic book limited series. It follows a dark & gritty telling of a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne coming out of a 10-year retirement from being Batman, because Gotham City’s crime rate is worse than ever, criminals now run free & the city is constantly under attack by a massive gang known as the mutants. You get to view an older Bruce Wayne who is way past his prime & struggling to see if he still has what it takes to be the Batman.
10. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2
The first Dark Knight Return was in itself great, but the second part really breaks the boundary of excellence. Not being familiar to the graphic novel origins of the story, what happens in second part really blows my mind. Not only does Batman have the Joker to contend with, but put Superman together in the mix, and you get another level of awesomeness.
